The year 2019 ended on an exceptionally high note for me and I have been bursting to share an incredible experience with you! A once-in-a-lifetime trip to Antarctica was the highlight of our family time in December. We planned this trip together as a family for over two years. And let me tell you, the planning was as much fun as the actual experience! This very special holiday marked my husband, Gys’s and our son, Josh’s, significant birthdays and served as a rite of passage for Josh who finished Matric.
Moments like these add up to a lifetime of memories[/caption]Nothing can prepare you for the unspoiled beauty of the snow- and ice-covered landscape. Photographs don’t do it justice, but we will forever cherish the memories of the ancient glacial ice reflecting the most beautiful hues of blue, whales breaching all around us and listening to the squabble of the penguin colonies. As a Retiremeant™ Specialist, I am conscious of applying in my life what I recommend to clients. I wholeheartedly believe that you need to have a plan for your life and your money, and that your plan starts with knowing how you want to live your life. Saving and allocating money to realise your goals and dreams become a little clearer and much more focused. It really does give you a whole new perspective on money if you know what you are working towards and how your money will work for you to get you there.
Was it reckless to spend my money on a trip to Antarctica with my family? Not in my mind. I had a plan and allocated money to make this trip a reality. And this is how I get meaning from my money – by sharing it with my family and amassing a wealth of treasured memories with those I love.
The dream items on your vision board may not be as extravagant as going to Antarctica – we all find pleasure and meaning in different things. Yours may be going on a course or doing home renovations that will add value to your life. It may be something uncomplicated such as learning to cook a new dish. But whatever your dream may be, for it to have any chance of succeeding, you have to give it attention. Formulate a goal around the dream and write an action plan of how you are going to achieve it.
The true joy of making dreams a reality, is simply by dreaming. Give yourself time to think, to plan and to visualise. It’s not only about the outcome – it’s about every step of the journey in getting there.
Life is too short to not live intentionally and to appreciate the journey. It can often be more rewarding that the initial goal you set.
Wishing you a fulfilling and meaningful journey in 2020!
Remember, when it comes to your money, be inspired, be brave and be on purpose,
