Women in Finance Network Event

The Women in Finance Network (WiFN) breakfast event took place on Thursday, 28 September at 54 on Bath Hotel in Rosebank. 110 amazing and inspiring women in the financial services industry attended the event.

The first part of the breakfast session focused on the current state of women entrepreneurs. Marylou Kneale, Founder of Living Facts, shared the research and findings on why women should consider becoming entrepreneurs, as well as the factors limiting them to build successful entrepreneurial businesses. The research was commissioned and sponsored by the Sage Foundation.

Since women account for only 1% of the world’s wealth, entrepreneurial enterprises owned and managed by women should significantly increase this staggering statistic. One of the largest concerns is that 68% of South African women have children younger than 2 years old and living without partners. Marylou stressed the importance of support structures for women and the benefits of networking and surrounding yourself with organisations or people who can support you. In addition, she focused on the fact that women should be exposed to the world of business and finance from an early age. We will go a long way yet if the spirit of entrepreneurship is fostered and nurtured in our girls along with affirmations on risk-taking, confidence, self-belief and competitiveness.

Kim Potgieter, founder of the WiFN shared her insights on how to shape your future and live your dream! She shared her wisdom on the importance of having a life vision and emphasized that you can be whatever and whoever you want to be – as long as you have a dream! Kim encouraged the audience to look inside for ‘insight” and to understand that their greatest asset in life, lies in themselves, in who they are as people. She encouraged women in the audience to believe in themselves, to support each other and to take up the challenge of living their dream lives!

Brookdale Breakaway

Kim hosted a workshop at the fabulous Brookdale Health Hydro in the Midlands Meander for a selected amount of participants. The perfect venue to restore physical health and mental well-being.

The workshop entitled “Your money Journey” took participants on a personal, very intimate and internally focused journey on discovering their own relationship with money: factors inhibiting a money story of success and abundance, and discussing what a healthy relationship with money entails.

Emphasis was placed on thinking, reflecting and dreaming – envisioning an ideal life where money serves to help fulfill your vision. The process finished with advice and assistance on developing an action plan for change – on transforming the current life journey to a fulfilling and inspiring one.
